HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE 2023 HLMA ONLINE WORKSHOP SERIES: TYPESETTING USING LATEX AND OVERLEAF, AND WRITING A MATHEMATICS RESEARCH REPORT

Hang Lung Mathematics Awards (HLMA) has organized two online workshops on Friday, August 4. The first session titled “Typesetting using LaTex and Overleaf” was led by Dr. Albert Ku from the Department of Mathematics at HKUST. Dr. Ku provided detailed explanations and demonstrations of various functions of LaTex and Overleaf, equipping students with the necessary skills to create their research report by utilizing these online tools effectively.

The second session titled “Writing a Mathematics Research Report” was led by Professor Frederick Fong, also from the Department of Mathematics at HKUST. Professor Fong analyzed past HLMA research reports and pointed out where students should learn from and what mistakes they should avoid. He hoped that this workshop can help students understand how to effectively communicate their results in a clear and concise manner.

HLMA will organize another online workshop about the submission portal and address students’ potential difficulties when using the portal.
